As a student here, I can say that the campus is well organized. The grounds are clean, and bathroom maintenance is regular. There are lots of options for food and coffee, and numerous cozy areas to study. The staff is always friendly and faculty is great!

It’s incredibly disappointing that a school named after an Indigenous tribe — Algonquin College — would actively suppress students’ peaceful advocacy for human rights. This year’s graduating students who stood in solidarity with Palestine, carried Palestinian flags, or spoke out against genocide were met with security interference, flag confiscation, and disciplinary action. That is deeply ironic, especially for a college that claims to honor Indigenous culture and is located in Canada’s capital, not far from the House of Parliament, the city in which the Prime Minister’s resides. How can a place of higher education, on unceded Algonquin territory, deny students the right to express their identity, their grief, or their beliefs, especially in peaceful and symbolic ways? Graduation is supposed to be a celebration of growth, freedom of thought, and expression. Suppressing those values, especially in a public institution, is unacceptable and goes against everything this college claims to stand for. Free speech should not be conditional. Cultural and political expression should not be policed. I am extremely disappointed.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Algonquin College, particularly in the Project Management program. The instructors lack empathy, provide little to no academic support, and create a hostile learning environment rather than setting students up for success. Mistreatment by Instructors Many lecturers fail students arbitrarily instead of offering helpful and supportive feedback. They insult, shout, and discourage students, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation instead of a psychologically safe learning environment. Lack of Support and Guidance The college does not provide clear expectations, structured guidance, or proper prototypes for assignments. Students are left to struggle with impossible tasks and are punished instead of being supported when they face difficulties. Unfair Grading Practices Professors fail students without proper justification, making it nearly impossible for them to succeed. Despite paying high tuition fees, students do not receive the education and support they deserve. One particularly unfair policy is assigning a grade of "0" for late assignments, without considering the challenges that international students or working professionals face in adapting to the system. Hostile Learning Environment Instead of motivating students, some professors actively discourage them, making comments like "You will have to resign and quit your job," as if they are setting students up for failure. No Equity or Justice from the Academic Administration When students file complaints, the Academic Appeal process is ineffective, and the ombudsman fails to ensure fairness. Lecturers threaten students with failure, knowing they will not be held accountable. The Academic Committee allows unfair practices to continue unchecked, showing no empathy, support, or genuine concern for students' success. Overall, I regret enrolling at Algonquin College—it has been a waste of time, money, and effort. I would never recommend this institution to anyone looking for a fair, supportive, and student-centred academic environment.

Algonquin College recently shut down the ACE Program, which is a program designed to help newcomers, people who need skill retraining, and those who weren't able to achieve their course requirements in high school, get the skills they need to enter college proper. I am one of the last alumni of this program. The fact that Algonquin College shut down this program says everything that you need to know about how they view people who enroll in their college.

My daughter attended here. She had a number of years at Algonquin College. The whole course was to be about 3 years long. But covid hit which delayed her education. Then she had a particular professor that did not like my daughter for whatever reason. My daughter took this one course twice. Both times she failed the whole course by one percent; twice. I am sure that she tried. Instead of quitting altogether she decided to try a new college closer to home. She went to another college completely and was able to graduate yesterday. I honestly think that the professor in the case that failed my daughter twice. She was making it personal. Isn't in the end to help students graduate and succeed in their career chosen path? I think this professor should have sat my daughter down and take a look at what was the issue in her not succeeding. Props to the other college that helped my daughter succeed and not discourage my daughter.

Not a review about the education because I’m not / was never a student—just visited. Very impressed with the architectural style of buildings on campus and the number of communal or breakout spaces incorporated.
